Apple Has Now Given 1 Billion iPhone Users A Reason To Stay

In this photo illustration the Apple logo is seen displayed...
even at the world's leading companies—as the raft of security announcements for MicrosoftApple and Google platforms in recent weeks shows all too well. And so, accepting that, it comes down to what you do when it happens. And Apple is arguably leading the way in the speed and effectiveness of its responses.
On Monday [August 26], Apple released an emergency fix for the iPhone. In a highly-publicized and embarrassing error, the Cupertino tech giant had accidentally reopened a vulnerability in its iOS 12.4 release that enabled a current generation iPhone to be jailbroken and therefore hacked. Now iOS 12.4.1 slams that particular door shut once again.
The issue for users was that the vulnerability (while open) could allow a dangerous hack to be installed on devices through downloaded apps, with the usual protections to prevent the malware mounting an attack across the device being down.
There was shock (and some excitement) in the Infosecurity community at such a glaring error from Apple. Yes, the vulnerability leaving devices open to attack was a potential disaster for the company. But the idea of a modern jailbroken iPhone was an unexpected gift for some in the community. A jailbreak had been released very efficiently as soon as Apple left its backdoor open.
Apple made a huge mistake. And now they have fixed it and done so quickly. Apple quickly addressed the recent Bluetooth KNOB vulnerability, and when the Zoom conference calling exploit was published, where poor software architecture left devices open to attack, Apple rolled out a mandatory patch to its MacBooks to fix it.
Apple has locked down its ecosystem in a way that others have not. It has advantages and limitations. But when the company has been tested in recent weeks, at least in my view, they have done the right things to maintain confidence in the brand. Not all of the company's peers can say the same.
And, in the meantime, it goes without saying for all iPhone users out there—make sure you update as soon as you can.

MILAN: Chelsea defender Davide Zappacosta has joined Roma on a six-month loan deal with an option to extend until the end of the season, the Serie A club announced on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old Italian international has at the same time extended his contract with Chelsea until June 2022.
“I am pleased to join Roma, after an experience overseas that helped me progress as both a player and a person,” Zappacosta said.
The right-back joined Chelsea from Torino on a four-year deal in 2017, making 52 appearances for the Blues of which 26 were in the Premier League.
Roma finished sixth last season in Serie A and open their campaign at home against Genoa on Sunday. - AFP

United's Sanchez set to complete Inter loan move - Report

MANCHESTER United’s Chile forward Alexis Sanchez is set to join Inter Milan on loan, Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Tuesday.
The paper said the deal is a pure loan with no agreement or obligation for a permanent transfer and added that United were expected to contribute towards the player’s wages.
The 30-year-old joined United from Arsenal in January 2018 as part of a swap deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan but has been a huge disappointment.
He has only scored three Premier League goals in 32 appearances since arriving at Old Trafford and his exit is no surprise.
Sanchez will link up with Belgium forward Romelu Lukaku who left United for Inter earlier this month in a deal reported to have cost the Serie A club around €80 million euros (€1.00 = RM4.66)
The Chilean made his name in Italy with Udinese before moving to Barcelona and then Arsenal where he scored 80 goals in 166 appearances, winning the FA Cup in 2015 and 2017 after scoring in both finals. - REUTERS

Prince Andrew 'knows what he's done', claims Jeffrey Epstein accuser

Royal has previously denied Virginia Giuffre’s accusation that she was forced to have sex with him

An accuser of the financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein on Tuesday addressed her accusation that she was coerced into sex with Prince Andrew, saying the royal “knows what he’s done”.
Virginia Giuffre had already alleged in 2011 testimony that Andrew “knows the truth” about Epstein’s abuse of underage girls and said he should be made to testify. In a December 2014 court filing she alleged that she was made to have sex with Andrew and other friends of Epstein.
The prince has always vehemently denied the allegations. In 2015 a court decided that the allegations made by Giuffre about the prince were “immaterial and impertinent” and ordered them to be struck out of a claim against Epstein.
On Tuesday, Giuffre, who now lives in Queensland with her Australian husband, spoke to reporters outside federal court in Manhattan. She was one of nearly two dozen women who spoke about alleged sexual abuse by Epstein during a unique court proceeding scheduled after the financier’s death in prison on 10 August, which was ruled a suicide.
Epstein’s death at 66 brought an end to his criminal case but the judge gave accusers the opportunity to speak publicly.
“He knows what he’s done and he can attest to that,” Giuffre said about Prince Andrew, a video of the press conference showed. “He knows exactly what he’s done, and I hope he comes clean about it.”
Brad Edwards, a lawyer representing a number of Epstein accusers, said that “with respect to Prince Andrew or anyone else who made statements, gratuitous statements, if anyone wants to come over here and talk with us, and answer real questions that the victims have, and that we have on their behalf, we welcome that invitation.
“I personally extended that invitation to Prince Andrew multiple times. Any time, we are ready, and we have a lot of questions for him.”
Andrew said in a statement last Saturday that he made Epstein’s acquaintance in 1999 and saw him once or twice each year. The prince also said he stayed at several of Epstein’s homes.
He said he did not “see, witness or suspect any behavior of the sort that subsequently led to [Epstein’s] arrest and conviction”.
He added: “I have said previously that it was a mistake and an error to see him after his release [from prison] in 2010 and I can only reiterate my regret that I was mistaken to think that what I thought I knew of him was evidently not the real person, given what we now know.”
The prince also said: “His suicide has left many unanswered questions and I acknowledge and sympathize with everyone who has been affected and wants some form of closure.
“This is a difficult time for everyone involved and I am at a loss to be able to understand or explain Mr Epstein’s lifestyle. I deplore the exploitation of any human being and would not condone, participate in, or encourage any such behaviour.”

Carli Lloyd reportedly gets offer from NFL team after nailing 55-yard field goal

U.S. women's national soccer team star Carli Lloyd has reportedly received an offer from an NFL team after making an impressive 55-yard kick at Philadelphia Eagles training camp last week. Her trainer, James Galanis, revealed in an interview that the two-time World Cup champion could get a chance to kick in a preseason game.

Galanis told Fox Sports Monday that the football world took notice of her kicking skills and that a team made her an offer to join their roster. "Today, she got another call from another NFL team," he said. "The one that called today, I don't want to say who it is, was willing to put her on the roster for their next (game). They were willing to put her on the roster."
With players and coaches on hand to watch, Lloyd easily drilled a field goal in between goal posts half as wide as the NFL standard. Video of her kick went viral on social media.
All 32 NFL teams play their final preseason game on Thursday, and some teams, such as the Chicago Bears, are in glaring need of a kicker. According to Galanis, Lloyd showed interest in playing, but the proposed game would be on the same day as the USWNT's matchup against Portugal.
If the opportunity to play in an actual game comes around again, her trainer said Lloyd would take her time to prepare. "Knowing Carli, I don't think she would just hop on and do it," Galanis told Fox Sports. "She would need a couple of weeks training just to get comfortable and acclimatized. But things have escalated and it is real."
The chance to make such a groundbreaking move forwomen's equality in sports would be significant for Lloyd, according to her trainer.
"We are thinking about what it would do to the sport itself, every sport at every level," Galanis said. "She would be the first female that's really playing with males, and what would it do to the whole equality (issue)."
While talking about her NFL field goal experience in an interview, Lloyd said she thought it was all fun and games at first, until she realized "this has the chance to be sort of a pioneering moment for women."
Earlier this year, Lloyd and other members of the USWNT filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Soccer Federation, alleging institutionalized gender discrimination and demandingequal pay. The women's team won its fourth FIFA World Cup championship in July, but earned less than a quarter of what the U.S. men's team would have been paid for the same feat. Mediation talks between the two sides broke down in August after their first day of discussions.

'Legitimate donations': Lori Loughlin attorney previews college admissions defense in court

Actress Lori Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, gave money to a nonprofit that made “legitimate donations” to universities, they did not pay bribes to get their daughters into the University of Southern California, an attorney for the celebrity couple said in federal court Tuesday.
William Trach, representing both defendants, previewed the defense argument during a mostly procedural hearing in which Loughlin and Giannulli addressed conflicts of interest that their attorneys could face in the nation’s college admissions scandal.
It marked the couple’s first appearance in court since they pleaded not guilty to mail fraud and money laundering charges in April. Both chose to keep their attorneys ahead of a potential trial despite warnings from federal Magistrate Judge Page Kelley about “very serious risks" with the conflicts.
Trach was responding to comments by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Rosen, who said Loughlin and Giannulli knowingly paid Rick Singer $500,000 to orchestrate a scheme in which bribes were funneled to USC employees who agreed to help designate their daughters as crew recruits.
“There’s zero evidence in this case of that,” Trach said, adding that the checks his clients wrote were to USC and The Key Worldwide Foundation, which he said gave “legitimate donations to schools across the country.”
“On that, my clients have a united front,” he said.
Lori Loughlin enters through the back door at federal court on Aug. 27, 2019, in Boston, for a hearing in the college admissions bribery scandal.
Loughlin, star of “Full House,” and Giannulli, a fashion designer, are accused of paying Singer, a college consultant and the founder of the nonprofit Key Worldwide Foundation, to get daughters Olivia Jade and Isabella Rose into USC as crew athletes even though neither were athletes.
Tuesday’s hearing was over after about 45 minutes, and the two left the courtroom holding hands. The couple avoided the media scrum at the front of the courthouse, slipping in through a back door,  and declined to comment as they left the courtroom.
Prosecutors argue Singer's nonprofit was a sham created to take payments from wealthy parents who sought to take part in an elaborate cheating and bribery scheme. Some paid to have college coaches accept their children as competitive athletic recruits, prosecutors say, while others paid Singer to have someone take the ACT or SAT exam for their children to get them admitted into elite universities.
Prosecutors say Donna Heinel, senior associate athletic director at USC, and Laura Janke, the school's assistant women’s soccer coach, participated in the scheme involving Loughlin's daughters and were paid by Singer. Janke has admitted to fabricating the fake crew profiles for their daughters. Heinel has pleaded not guilty to charges.
On the issue of conflicts, prosecutors flagged three instances where the attorneys hired by Loughlin and Giannulli could be compromised.
Kelley called them “actual conflicts” but nonetheless decided to let the couple proceed with the law firm they share, Boston-based Latham & Watkins. She said she will continue to review Giannulli's separate counsel, Donnelly, Vonroy & Gelhaar, but is "inclined" to allow it.
Kelley allowed the couple to keep Latham & Watkins, even though she said a potential conflict could arise if a disagreement emerges between the two defendants.
Kelley told the couple that every defendant has a right to an attorney with “undivided loyalty to you alone,” adding that it’s impossible to know how the case will evolve. “No one can say they know everything that will happen down the road.”
“Your counsel may not be able to conduct an independent investigation of the facts of your case,” she said.

DeMarcus Cousins Is Accused of Choking and Threatening to Shoot a Woman

DeMarcus Cousins has been accused of threatening violence against a woman with whom he shares a child.

The woman, with whom the N.B.A. star shares a child, has asked an Alabama court for a protective order against Cousins.
DeMarcus Cousins, the All-Star N.B.A. center who signed with the Los Angeles Lakers last month, has been accused of threatening to shoot a woman with whom he had a child, according to a protection order request filed in Mobile County Court in Alabama on Monday.
The request was submitted by a woman who identified herself as having once had a relationship with Cousins. According to the filing, Cousins threatened to shoot her last Friday, the day before Cousins’ wedding with another woman, Morgan Lang. In the court filing, the woman accused Cousins of having choked her in the past.
The news website TMZ, which first reported the accusations on Tuesday, published an audio recording of a phone call said to be of Cousins threatening to shoot the woman if she did not let their child attend his wedding. In the court filing, the woman said Cousins, using an expletive, threatened to shoot her in the head “even if he didn’t have to get his hands dirty doing it.”
A spokeswoman for the Mobile Police Department confirmed in an email that a police report had been filed on Friday and said that it was “all that we can release.” Though the phone call reported by TMZ was not addressed in the police report, the spokeswoman added that the woman “advised us of what was said in the recording.”
Representatives for Cousins did not respond to a request for comment, and the woman could not immediately be reached.
A spokeswoman for the Lakers said: “We are aware of the allegation involving DeMarcus Cousins and, of course, take this claim seriously. We are in the process of gathering information and will reserve further comment at this time.”

Paige VanZant says she earns more through Instagram posts than UFC

UFC is one of the few sports organizations where female athletes are promoted at a comparable level as the men — and deservedly so. Since 2013’s UFC 157 main event between Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche, it’s been relatively common to see female fighters headline highly anticipated UFC cards.
Yet, there apparently remains a huge pay gap between the top male and female fighters. And as a whole, UFC hasn’t increased the fighter wage share despite UFC’s massive growth the past decade.
It’s so bad that flyweight division fighter Paige VanZant says that she makes more money with sponsored Instagram posts than she does by fighting in UFC.
VanZant, who has 2.2 million followers on Instagram and makes numerous sponsored posts, told ESPN’s Ariel Helwani:
“With endorsements I make way more money sitting at home, posting pictures on Instagram than I do fighting. With endorsement deals and everything I pull in from social media, I would actually be at a loss just taking a fight and focusing on that. If I were to stop everything I do outside of fighting and just fight, I would be at a loss financially, by a longshot.”
She added that during her contract negotiation, she was told that she couldn’t be paid more than a “female champion” rather than her value across all of UFC (men and women).
UFC doesn’t publicly disclose a list of money leaders for any particular year, but some projections have just one female fighter (Ronda Rousey, who is no longer active in UFC) among the top 20 in net worth.
On the other hand, UFC head Dana White’s net worth is estimated to be $500 million.
VanZant last fought in January where she defeated Rachael Ostovich but suffered a fractured arm.

Fortnite Patch Notes (Update 10.20): Borderlands 3 Crossover Event Is Live

Image result for fortnite patch notes
Epic Games has rolled out another update for Fortnite. Patch 10.20 is now live across all platforms, and as usual, it adds another new item to the free-to-play battle royale game, as well as something a bit more unexpected: aBorderlands crossover event to promote the upcoming release ofBorderlands 3. Here are the patch notes and a look at the newly added skin and other items.
Headlining this week's update is the Fortnite X Mayhem event. Players can visit Borderlands setting Pandora via a new Rift Zone, which transforms the game's visuals to resemble the cel-shaded style of Borderlands. Aside from the change in graphics, you generate shield if you're in the area long enough without taking any damage. There is also an assortment of challenges to complete and Borderlands-themed rewards to unlock, as well as a Borderlands Psycho Bundle cosmetics pack to purchase from the game's store, which includes a Claptrap you can carry around on your back. The crossover event runs until September 10. You can see the skin, back bling, and other items and rewards added as part of the event below.
Additionally, this week brings a new throwable item called the Shield Bubble. As its name suggests, it creates a protective bubble that lasts for 30 seconds and negates projectiles and explosives, although other players are still able to walk through it. The Shield Bubble can be found as floor loot or in chests, supply drops, and vending machines.
Rounding out the patch are some balance changes and adjustments. As Epic previously announced, the controversial BRUTE mechs have finally been nerfed. The developer has also re-enabled the recent Junk Rift item following an issue with it, while the Storm Flip, Drum Gun, and Storm Scout Sniper Rifle have all been vaulted.
You can see all of the changes and additions Epic has made to Fortnite: Battle Royale below, while the full patch notes can be found on the developer's website.

Richard Shotwell/Invision/AP 10 announcements you may have missed from Disney's D23 fan expo

Richard Shotwell/Invision/AP

ALL THINGS DISNEY — The dust has settled on Disney's D23 Expo and we all know about the big announcements like the new trailer for “Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker” and an extended look at the live-action remake of “Mulan.”
But aside from these big-ticket items, there are a few things you may have missed from the D23 Expo — and I’m here to let you know about them.
The latest running of the biannual event billed as the "largest Disney fan event in the world," took place this past weekend in Anaheim, California.
Here are 10 things you may not have known from the D23 Expo:

Disney teases 'Star Wars,' 'Frozen 2,' more at convention

At the Walt Disney Company's biannual D23 convention, a faint image of the "Star Wars" character Emperor Palpatine in the background of a new poster can cause as much of a stir as actual appearances from movie stars such as Angelina Jolie and Dwayne Johnson.

Marvel

'Black Panther II' release date

Black Panther” made a killing at the box office last year and has become one of Marvel’s hottest properties. We knew a sequel was coming, but we didn’t know when — until now.
It was announced at D23 that “Black Panther II” will pounce into theaters on May 6, 2022.

She-Hulk gets a series

Hulk has been a staple in the Marvel Cinematic Universe almost since the get-go, but he’s about to get some company. There were several announcements made around Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+, and one of those was the new series “She-Hulk.”
We don’t know a lot about the series yet, but it should be fun to watch it develop.

'Star Wars'

Ewan McGregor will be Obi-Wan once again

The "Star Wars" prequels have their issues, and many people are split on their opinions of them, but one thing that seems to be universal is that Ewan McGregor was a great Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Now, thanks to Disney+, we get to see more of him.
The untitled Obi-Wan series will reportedly star McGregor and take place around the same time in the "Star Wars" universe as “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”

New 'Star Wars' footage from Disney's fan convention may reveal more insight about Rey

New 'Rise of Skywalker' poster features Palpatine

We’ve covered the new “Rise of Skywalker” footage for you already, but there was also a new poster released at D23 — and it features a familiar face.
I’m not sure what it all means, but Emperor Palpatine’s face is prominent in the new poster for “Episode IX,” as he seems to be watching over both Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Rey (Daisy Ridley) as they battle it out with lightsabers.
Let the assumptions and conspiracy theories begin.

Disney movies

Emma Stone as Cruella de Vil

Cruella de Vil is getting her own live-action remake, and Academy Award-winning actressEmma Stone is starring as the titular villain.
Stone’s casting was announced some time ago, but the first image of her as the iconic Disney baddie was revealed at D23. It’s a different take, but I’m eager to see what she has in store.

Prepare your prequel memes: Ewan McGregor may return as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Disney+ 'Star Wars' series

'Lady and the Tramp' trailer

The live-action remake of “Lady and the Tramp” now has a trailer. It was also revealed the movie will be available to stream Nov. 12 on Disney+.
I have a feeling people are getting eager to start subscribing to Disney+.

Disney parks

New 'Mary Poppins Returns' attraction

Epcot at Disney World is getting its very own attraction based on “Mary Poppins Returns.”
We don’t have much information, and still don’t know when it will debut or if it’s a ride or a walk-through, but we know it’s coming.

'Frozen'-themed roller coaster

The juggernaut known as “Frozen” is getting a Disney roller coaster.
While this is exciting, there is a bit of a hiccup: You'll only be able to ride it if you’re visiting Disneyland Hong Kong.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge offers new world at Disneyland

'Avengers' Quinjet ride

Marvel is getting a whole section of the park at the Disney California Adventure Park, and it was announced that phase two of that area will include a ride in a Quinjet. You'll be able to fly alongside the Avengers as they save the world yet again.
No official date for the ride has been announced.

New footage of Rise of the Resistance ride

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has been a big attraction for Disneyland so far, and they aren’t done yet. A new attraction called Rise of the Resistance is headed to the park, and new footage was released at D23 in the form of a commercial.
According to the official description of the ride it “will blur the lines between fantasy and reality and will put guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Guests will be recruited to join Rey and General Organa at a secret base. Along the way, they will be captured by a First Order Star Destroyer. With the help of some heroes of the Resistance, they break out and must escape the Star Destroyer, protect the secret base, and stay one step ahead of Kylo Ren.”
