ALL THINGS DISNEY — The dust has settled on
Disney's D23 Expo and we all know about the big announcements like the new trailer for “Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker” and an extended look at the live-action remake of “Mulan.”
But aside from these big-ticket items, there are a few things you may have missed from the D23 Expo — and I’m here to let you know about them.
Here are 10 things you may not have known from the D23 Expo:
At the Walt Disney Company's biannual D23 convention, a faint image of the "Star Wars" character Emperor Palpatine in the background of a new poster can cause as much of a stir as actual appearances from movie stars such as Angelina Jolie and Dwayne Johnson.
Marvel
It was announced at D23 that “Black Panther II” will pounce into theaters on May 6, 2022.
Hulk has been a staple in the Marvel Cinematic Universe almost since the get-go, but he’s about to get some company. There were several announcements made around Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+, and one of those was the new series “She-Hulk.”
We don’t know a lot about the series yet, but it should be fun to watch it develop.
'Star Wars'
Ewan McGregor will be Obi-Wan once again
The "Star Wars" prequels have their issues, and many people are split on their opinions of them, but one thing that seems to be universal is that Ewan McGregor was a great Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Now, thanks to Disney+, we get to see more of him.
The untitled
Obi-Wan series will reportedly star McGregor and take place around the same time in the "Star Wars" universe as “
Solo: A Star Wars Story.”
We’ve covered the new “
Rise of Skywalker” footage for you already, but there was also a new poster released at D23 — and it features a familiar face.
I’m not sure what it all means, but Emperor Palpatine’s face is prominent in the new poster for “Episode IX,” as he seems to be watching over both Kylo Ren (
Adam Driver) and Rey (
Daisy Ridley) as they battle it out with lightsabers.
Let the assumptions and conspiracy theories begin.
Disney movies
Cruella de Vil is getting her own live-action remake, and Academy Award-winning actress
Emma Stone is starring as the titular villain.
Stone’s casting was announced some time ago, but the
first image of her as the iconic Disney baddie was revealed at D23. It’s a different take, but I’m eager to see what she has in store.
The live-action remake of “Lady and the Tramp” now has
a trailer. It was also revealed the movie will be available to stream Nov. 12 on Disney+.
I have a feeling people are getting eager to start subscribing to Disney+.
Disney parks
Epcot at Disney World is getting its very own attraction based on “Mary Poppins Returns.”
We don’t have much information, and still don’t know when it will debut or if it’s a ride or a walk-through, but we know it’s coming.
'Frozen'-themed roller coaster
The juggernaut known as “Frozen” is getting a Disney roller coaster.
While this is exciting, there is a bit of a hiccup: You'll only be able to ride it if you’re visiting Disneyland Hong Kong.
'Avengers' Quinjet ride
Marvel is getting a whole section of the park at the Disney California Adventure Park, and it was announced that phase two of that area will include a ride in a Quinjet. You'll be able to fly alongside the Avengers as they save the world yet again.
No official date for the ride has been announced.
New footage of Rise of the Resistance ride
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has been a big attraction for Disneyland so far, and they aren’t done yet. A new attraction called Rise of the Resistance is headed to the park, and new footage was released at D23 in the form of a
commercial.
According to the official description of the ride it “will blur the lines between fantasy and reality and will put guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Guests will be recruited to join Rey and General Organa at a secret base. Along the way, they will be captured by a First Order Star Destroyer. With the help of some heroes of the Resistance, they break out and must escape the Star Destroyer, protect the secret base, and stay one step ahead of Kylo Ren.”
