Texas' Jerrod Heard out vs. Texas Tech with possible head injury

AUSTIN, Texas -- Longhorns quarterback Jerrod Heard was being evaluated for a head injury Thursday night after being ruled out for the rest of the game against Texas Tech in the second quarter.
Heard took a hard hit on a third-down sack and was taken to the locker room for further evaluation.

Tyrone Swoopes has taken over at quarterback for the Longhorns, who are currently missing seven starters.
Three of Texas' top four running backs -- Johnathan Gray (foot), D'Onta Foreman (finger) and Kirk Johnson (leg) -- are sidelined with injuries, leaving freshman Chris Warren as its only option at running back.
Warren rushed for a 91-yard touchdown, a Texas freshman record, in the second quarter to tie the game up 10-10.
The Longhorns have also lost starting linebackers Peter Jinkens (knee) andMalik Jefferson (ankle) as well as defensive tackle Desmond Jackson (stomach) during the game.
Starting offensive guard Patrick Vahe was also ruled out earlier this week with a knee injury.

Young hunter gets 2 deer in 1 shot on 1st hunt

Ten-year-old Kyler Verbeten went hunting for the first time with his dad on Sunday. "I wanted to go hunting this year because I really wanted a deer," he told WBAY-TV.
He said spent some time watching a squirrel jump from tree to tree. But then he and his dad eventually saw two deer in the woods.
"I said, 'Shoot the big doe,' because there was a smaller one," said Matt Verbeten, Kyler's dad. "He had the gun, and I'm kind of laughing, 'We'll see how he does, he's 10.'"
Kyler's first shot missed. But his dad told him to try again.
"Boom. They just fell right over," Matt Verbeten said. The shot went through both animals.
"I was so excited I almost jumped out of the stand," said Kyler, "I just ran down the ladder and ran out there to look at them."
Kyler's dad used his tag and Kyler's, since they weren't planning on Kyler taking two deer. And Kyler is already looking forward to next year.

Corey Linsley, Micah Hyde Out for Green Bay Packers

Corey Linsley is out and J.C. Tretter is in at center for the Green Bay Packers’ game against the Chicago Bears on Thursday night.
Along with Linsley, who injured an ankle during the opening series of Sunday’s win at Minnesota, the Packers’ other inactives are defensive back Micah Hyde (hip), running back Alonzo Harris, outside linebacker Andy Mulumba and receivers Jared Abbrederis (ribs) and Ty Montgomery (ankle).
Without Linsley, Tretter, a fourth-round pick in 2013, will make his first NFL start. Without Hyde, rookie Quinten Rollins figures to serve as the No. 4 cornerback and play in the dime defensive package. Hyde would have returned punts and kickoffs. Without him last week, Jeff Janis handled kickoffs and Randall Cobb fielded punts. Last week, special teams coordinator Ron Zook said Rollins had impressed fielding punts, so he might be an option.
For the Bears, running back Matt Forte and receiver Alshon Jeffery are active. Forte had missed the last three games with a knee injury and Jeffery was out last week with an injured groin. Out are three starters – tight end Martellus Bennett (ribs), receiver Eddie Royal (knee) and safety Antrel Rolle (knee). The others are running back Ka’Deem Carey (head), cornerback Jacoby Glenn, offensive lineman Nick Becton and defensive tackle Will Sutton.

Corey Linsley questionable for Thanksgiving nightcap

The Packers had to turn to JC Tretter at center after Corey Linsley left last Sunday’s game with an ankle injury and they may be turning to him from the opening snap against the Bears on Thursday night.

Linsley did not practice at all during this abbreviated week of work for the Packers and has been listed as questionable for Thursday night’s game. On Wednesday, coach Mike McCarthy sounded comfortable going with Tretter if that’s the way things play out.
“[Tretter] was one of the offensive game ball winners for his performance in Minnesota,” McCarthy said, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I think any time you lose a center or a quarterback, those guys handle the football on every single play, and for the player caller, for Tom Clements to be able to just keep calling the ball and for Aaron to be able to get in and out of the plays that he needed to and not even blink, I think it says a lot about JC Tretter and his preparation and our ability just to stay the course.”
The Packers have ruled out wide receivers Jared Abbrederis and Ty Montgomery while defensive backs Micah Hyde and Damarious Randall join Linsley and defensive tackle Mike Pennell with questionable tags.
